a British comedy television series set in a prison, broadcast by the BBC from 1974 to 1977. Ronnie Barker played the role of an experienced prisoner, and much of the humour came from the clever ways in which he influenced the prison officers and the other prisoners to his advantage. In 2017 a new series, with Kevin Bishop in the main role, was shown.
