    CultureAccording to British common law, such objects belong to the king or queen and have to be offered first to the British Museum. The person finding them is given money equal to the full value of the objects if they were sold at their modern value. The common law term ‘treasure trove’ was replaced by ‘ treasure ’ in the Treasure Act which was passed in 1996.
